Also known as the manuka bush, the New Zealand tea tree was already being treasured in ancient times by the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori, as a traditional medicinal plant. Both the essential oils of the bark and the honey extracted from the flowers were used to treat various ailments.
In contrast to conventional honey, our Manuka Honey contains a higher concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO), which has been proven to have antiseptic and antibacterial properties. The MGO factor indicates the concentration of methylglyoxal per kilogramme of honey. The higher this value, the more effective the honey.
