Our Quality Promise: the finest quality from the selection of the harvesting areas through to the finished jar.
Best origin, careful bottling, maximum safety: For more than 70 years, BIHOPHAR has stood for honey quality on which you can depend. We source our honeys exclusively from the best harvesting areas in our selected countries of origin. We thereby rely on sustainable partnerships instead of anonymous mass-produced goods from Asia. Here in Braunschweig, every honey undergoes a strict multi-stage testing system that extends far beyond the legal standards before it is carefully bottled at beehive temperature. In this way, we guarantee purity, safety and the unadulterated flavour of nature in every jar. Here you can discover what our attention to quality really achieves.

Our high honey quality is the result of many conscious decisions. That is why we select our harvesting areas worldwide with great diligence and specifically search for regions in which the beekeeping craft has a deep-rooted tradition. At these locations, we meticulously establish contact with our partner beekeepers and beekeeping cooperatives: We thereby rely on long-standing partnerships with experts who fully share our quality standards and cultivate them in their daily work.
In the selected harvesting areas, the experienced beekeepers extract exclusively ripe honey after uncapping the combs which are completely sealed with wax. This is performed gently using honey extractors without the application of heat: The honey is released from the combs by centrifugal force alone. Our honey is therefore a genuine natural product that is extracted cold, as is customary in traditional beekeeping. This important quality feature guarantees that all the valuable constituents and the full flavour of the honey are retained.
Our strict quality controls begin in the country of origin: Before a honey is loaded for shipment, we ensure that it has been thoroughly sampled in the country of harvest, following which we have it analysed for authenticity and purity by recognised, independent and accredited laboratories. As soon as the honey arrives at our premises, a sample is taken from each honey barrel and again analysed in an independent laboratory.
Prior to bottling, samples are taken for a third time in order to carry out a final analysis of the honey quality parameters. As a result, we can ensure that our jars contain exclusively high-quality honey that fulfils our stringent requirements.
Every single jar of honey is fully traceable by means of the quality control number on the label.
In order to ensure that the valuable properties of the natural product are fully retained on its way into the jar, we treat the honey with the utmost care at every stage. Before bottling, the honey is passed through sieves to carefully remove foreign matter, such as wax particles. Our sieves are designed in such a way that no pollen is filtered out, as this is an important constituent of honey and serves as verification of the variety declaration and origin. The honey is subsequently bottled at a maximum of 36 degrees – a temperature that corresponds to the natural heat in a beehive – in order to preserve its valuable ingredients.
BIHOPHAR honey is bottled exclusively at our family business in Braunschweig. We take care to minimise the storage time between bottling and retailer in order to guarantee you fresh honey of the highest quality at all times.
For BIHOPHAR, we utilise solely raw honey from selected harvesting areas. Our long-standing supplier relationships thereby guarantee dependably high quality and the characteristic, delicious BIHOPHAR flavour.
To ensure consistently high flavour quality, our team of experts – specially trained in sensory analysis – taste, examine and classify every delivery of honey we receive in accordance with established parameters. As a result, we are able to guarantee an outstandingly high quality and a consistently good flavour – year after year.
We support certified organic beekeeping. This sustainable form of beekeeping combines ecological standards with a respectful approach to the bees and their natural environment. Organic beekeeping must fulfil specific requirements: For example, only hives made from natural materials, such as wood or straw, may be used. Furthermore, the bees are left with their own honey as food during the winter. Solely natural landscapes or organically farmed fields are permitted as beekeeping locations. All of these factors are verified and guaranteed by organic inspection bodies.
We also offer Fairtrade honeys, through which we specifically support beekeepers in economically disadvantaged regions of Latin America. These honeys guarantee fair trading conditions and fixed prices that secure the beekeepers’ livelihoods. Furthermore, the Fairtrade label ensures healthy and socially responsible working conditions.
Our packaging is fully recyclable. Our jars contain a high proportion of recycled glass. For labels and cartons, we exclusively utilise FSC-certified paper. “FSC” is the abbreviation for Forest Stewardship Council, whose certification ensures responsible and sustainable forest management.
Should a product ever fail to meet your expectations despite our strict quality controls, our customer service team is available to assist you personally by telephone or via the BIHOPHAR website.
We guarantee: multiple testing.
We want you to feel confident that whenever you see the BIHOPHAR name on a product, you can be sure that it contains honey that has been selected and carefully analysed by experienced experts. This is why we do not rely on random sampling but instead follow a comprehensive system. We have established a multi-stage testing process that is significantly stricter than required by law. From the first sample taken at the beekeeper’s through to the finished jar, every honey is tested multiple times – both by our own experts and by independent institutes. In the following, you can find out how we ensure top quality.
The first inspection takes place in the harvesting area. Even before the honey is despatched to us, a 100% sampling is carried out, and an independent laboratory is commissioned to perform an initial analysis. We thereby specify exactly which parameters must be tested. Only once the laboratory has confirmed that the honey fulfils our strict criteria, do we approve it for despatch.
As soon as the delivery arrives at our premises in Braunschweig, a comprehensive second quality control check is carried out. Without exception, every batch of honey is sampled and analysed once again by accredited and independent laboratories, with up to 40 parameters being tested. This ensures that the quality of the initial sample taken in the country of origin has been maintained during transport and that the honey continues to comply with our strict specifications.
Before the honey is bottled, the final crucial step takes place: In order to achieve a balanced flavour, we blend honeys from different beekeepers and re-test the composition against numerous parameters. Internal and external examinations ensure that only honeys of the highest quality and purity are bottled. Our in-house laboratory tests the flavour and consistency and verifies that all the limits specified by the German Honey Ordinance are adhered to without exception, whilst the external Institute for Honey Analysis verifies the varietal purity by means of pollen analysis. Only when everything is perfect is the honey allowed inside the BIHOPHAR jar.

Tested & confirmed: excellent quality.
Our exceptional quality is also confirmed through the annual testing performed by the German Agricultural Society (DLG). Our monofloral honeys and the classic “Honeycomb” have been tested there for more than 15 years. The result has always been the same: a gold medal for the highest quality. Such a series is the best proof for us that our diligence pays off.
In the most recent comparison by Stiftung Warentest (04/2025), our “Organic Honey from Germany” was also tested and was awarded the quality rating “GOOD” (2.1). In November 2022, Öko-Test awarded our “Organic Fairtrade Honey, Creamy” the highest rating of “very good”. In addition, we have our ready-bottled honeys tested several times a year by the specialised Institute for Honey Analysis. In this way, we ensure that the trust you place in us is always justified.
